Atlas Renewable Energy’s program trains more than 350 women in Brazil

September 26, 2024Press Releases

‘We Are Part of the Same Energy’ has trained more than 1,500 women across Latin America in technical skills for the renewable energy job market.

SAO PAULO, SEP 26, 2024 – Atlas Renewable Energy’s ‘We Are Part of the Same Energy’ program, which offers technical training to reduce gender inequality in the energy sector, has reached another milestone in female training: more than 100 women were trained in the third and final cycle of the program in Janauba, Minas Gerais, Brazil, which ended at the end of the semester.

The program has trained more than 350 women in Janauba, which prepares them to work in the construction of solar projects and find economic opportunities in similar activities in the area.

The ‘We Are Part of the Same Energy’ program was launched in 2019 to offer vocational training for women, creating job opportunities in the regions where the company operates in Brazil, Colombia, Chile and Mexico. The initiative seeks to increase female participation in the construction of solar projects, from a traditional 2% to 15%. In one of its projects, Atlas has already exceeded this target by hiring 22% of women. Participants in the program have the opportunity to increase their employability, both to work on an Atlas project and on other projects in the regions where they live, as well as the opportunity to become entrepreneurs as service providers.

Issues related to inclusion must be also addressed among men, in professional leadership, and among young people and children in schools. For this reason, the program promotes various educational activities in the work environment, involving the entire team, as well as carrying out external campaigns in partnership with schools to encourage girls to pursue careers in science and technology.

“We believe that gender inclusion significantly benefits the renewable energy industry. Providing these training opportunities strengthens local communities and contributes to a more inclusive and innovative sector,” says Maria Alice Santos, social coordinator at Atlas Renewable Energy.

The Vista Alegre Photovoltaic Project is located in Janaúba with 902 MWp (equivalent to 770 MWac of installed capacity), which will generate approximately 2TWh/year, or the equivalent of taking more than 61,800 cars off the streets of Sao Paulo and offsetting about 154,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year. The project’s construction began in 2023, and it is set to enter commercial operations by the end of 2024.
